Year 6 Curriculum
About Year 6
The time children spend in Year 6 will contribute towards being one of the most memorable years throughout their primary education. One of the most important years at primary school, children will develop greater independence, resilience and achieve greater awareness of their individuality as learners and young adults. We aim to provide children with the best possible support in preparing them for their Standard Assessment Tests (SATs), as well as with their transition to secondary school. Despite the SATs tests being an important focus we aim to keep stress levels down with fun and engaging activities and learning. There is always something to look forward to, with our annual residential trip and end of year performance remaining key fixtures in the Year 6 timetable.

How parents can support children at home
Every week, children will receive a randomised spelling test based on the spelling rules required of them with the Year 3/4 and 5/6 statutory spelling lists. Practise of these rules at home weekly is vital. We also ask that children read at least 5 times a week and that you take the time to listen to and discuss their reading book with them.
Regular additional practice of times tables will benefit the children in building up fluency in mathematics, particularly if they have gaps in their understanding of certain times tables. Times Table Rockstars can be used to help with this.
Any additional on-going support in preparation for their SATs tests this year is also greatly appreciated.
