Year R News

Autumn 1 Term

Year R have settled in so very well into school, taking on the school routine well within our stride. So much so we have joined the rest of the school during lunch time for OPAL! We have enjoyed learning and playing with new things. We all especially love role playing, dinosaurs, creating marble runs, storytelling and making pies, potions and cakes in the mud kitchen. We have also been learning how to be a bit more independent with taking off and putting on our own jumpers & coats with our zips and have been working really hard on our fine motor skills, strengthening up our fingers! We are getting much better at being good listeners and putting up our hands when we want to speak. We can’t wait for more fun over the coming weeks! We have been looking at the themes ‘Families Families Families’, ‘This is me!’ and ‘Elmer’, exploring our own interests, favourite animals, our families, our friends and what makes us a good friend.

We have started our learning with Phonics and Maths and are all doing so well! We have learnt lots of different sounds, I wonder if we could tell our adults if we see any we know out and about! We have been practicing writing all the new sounds we have learnt within our hand writing sessions and in our books, identifying the sounds we know in the words we are trying to write – all the adults are so proud. Last week we started our reading sessions, looking at different books and talking about what we can see and what we think will happen next or what is happening. In Maths we have been looking at identifying numbers to 5, the formation and the value. We have been recognising numicon and putting them in order of their value too.

We have taken every opportunity to be outside when the sun is shining (or at least dry!) to explore, investigate and develop our understanding of our school environment. We have done really well with any adult led activities set up, tailored to Bumblebees interest within the provision and have shown great independence and curiosity throughout.

Next term we will be looking at all things Autumnal which we cannot wait to explore! We hope that you have a lovely break and look forward to seeing you all soon!
